Director of Administration

She/Her, They/Them

Joan Benoît, Director of Administration, is responsible for the finance, human resources, and administrative functions of CURYJ.

Joan is an enrolled member of the Chippewa of the Thames, First Nation and has over 25 years of experience in non-profit administration including 13 years as the founding Executive Director of the Native American AIDS Project. A lifelong activist and advocate for some of the most disenfranchised individuals and communities, Joan comes to CURYJ with the understanding that a community is only as strong as its weakest members. To uplift these young people and their communities is a form of protest, and prayer. Joan has lived in Oakland for almost 30 years and is deeply rooted in Oakland’s culture and communities. She and her wife are proud parents to their 5 year old son.
