Catalina Garzon-Galvis

Catalina is Resilience Director at CURYJ and coordinates our work to strengthen community resilience to climate change as part of advancing community-based safety strategies. To this role she brings over two decades of experience with facilitating community-based planning, participatory research and digital storytelling projects and partnerships for environmental, social and climate justice with community-based organizations and coalitions. Catalina’s past work with CURYJ includes serving as project manager for a youth climate action research curriculum with Oakland Youth Advancing Climate Action (OYACA) and developing a foto-novela on gentrification and criminalization of youth with CURYJ’s co-founders and youth leaders during a successful campaign to stop gang injunctions in Oakland. She holds a Masters in City and Regional Planning and a BA in Environmental Sciences from UC Berkeley. Catalina is a recipient of the 2010 Thomas I. Yamashita “Foundations for Change” Prize which honors scholar-activists whose work bridges academia and community.
