Brian Carinio

Brian Carinio is a San Francisco native who brings his passion for music and community organizing to his role as School-Based Violence Interrupter at Fremont High School.

Brian’s path intersected with the justice system from age 10 through his early twenties, experiences that would later shape his understanding of how to effectively connect with at-risk youth. It was during this time that community workers and elders helped him understand how his personal struggles connected to larger systems of colonialism and white supremacy. These mentors provided him with safe spaces and alternatives to street life — particularly through music — that guided his path toward healing and purpose.

Before joining CURYJ full-time, Brian was deeply involved in grassroots organizing, including helping to start the 415 Day solidarity movement in San Francisco. Brian’s philosophy centers on the belief that young people need to see themselves reflected in the adults who hold keys to their future. Having experienced resistance to authority figures rooted in fear and discipline, he understands the importance of being someone youth can trust and confide in.

As a School-Based Violence Interrupter, Brian hopes to help young people discover their passions, just as community elders helped him find his. His goal is to guide students toward higher education and long-term employment while helping them transform their dreams into reality.
