Alysia Usher

Alysia Usher is a Workforce + NOAB Life Coach at CURYJ who has always been passionate about serving her community. Born and raised in Oakland, where she continues to live today, Alysia’s journey to CURYJ began through her dedication to housing advocacy, where she earned recognition from Alameda County for successfully securing Section 8 housing for 13 people while working at BOSS.

Alysia’s path evolved from housing advocacy to violence intervention, and eventually to youth services. CURYJ recognized her exceptional ability to connect with young women and repeatedly asked her to join their team. The transition to life coaching felt more meaningful and impactful to Alysia, as it allows her to see directly how positive intervention can change the lives of youth in the community.

As a school-based Life Coach at Oakland Technical High School, she excels at relationship building and naturally connects with youth from all backgrounds. She draws from her own experience with the criminal justice system in her mid-twenties, using her lived experience to help young people understand the stakes of the choices they face.

For many of her students, Alysia serves as a big sister or auntie figure—showing up to court for them, ensuring they attend class, and working alongside them to solve problems in their interpersonal relationships. Her ultimate goal is to ensure that her students graduate, go to college, get good jobs, and understand how to access the right pathways for success. In her free time, Alysia loves spending time with her 14-year-old son.
