Our HEATED Project engages youth, residents and community-based service providers in Fruitvale and West Oakland in elevating how we keep us safe during heat waves and other emergencies. The purpose of HEATED is to create a community heat resilience plan that advances actions we can take to better prepare and protect Fruitvale and West Oakland residents during heat waves.

Heat Survey
Through research, storytelling, and collaboration, the HEATED Project is working with residents and partners to build practical solutions that keep our communities safe during extreme heat.

HEATED Digital
Stories
In winter 2025, our DBB fellows participated in a digital storytelling workshop co-sponsored by StoryCenter. DBB storytellers created short 2 to 3 minute videos based on their experiences with extreme heat and community safety.

Service Mapping
We are meeting with community service providers to identify ways to better integrate and coordinate across available services and resources during heat waves.
